Botanical Description

Tufted to small mat-forming. Leaves basal, ovate, long-stalked, grey-white-hairy. Flowering stems up to 10cm tall, formed at the tip. Flowers loosely clustered, cream, yellow or white. Washington State to Montana, Odaho and northern California, in sagebrush to ponderosa pine forest. E.s. subsp. proliferum (Torr. and A. Gray) Stokes has silvery-grey spathulate leaves and broad clusters of creamy-white flowers. North-western Oregon, on rocky slopes at 1500-2500m. Akin to E. ovalifolium and varieties exist which are transitional to that species.
