Authors: Benth.
Subshrub, eventually to about 25cm tall with a wider spread. Stems erect. Leaves tightly revolute, appearing linear, up to 5mm or sometimes twice this in length, silvery-grey tomentose beneath, sometimes sparingly so above. Flowering stems 2-7cm tall, slender, with a whorl of leaf-like bracts and a solitary head-like inflorescence. Flowers bright yellow, freely borne, early to mid summer. Washington State to Oregon and Idaho, in sagebrush flats to mountain ridges. An attractive alpine house plant and recent trials suggest suitable for the trough or raised bed outside.
