also in error as C. cespitosa q.v.). Tufted to colony or sometimes mat-forming, spreading by slender rhizomes. Stems erect, wiry, to 10cm tall. Basal leaves small, rounded to oval, toothed, bright glossy green. Flowers neatly bell-shaped, nodding, 1.3-1.6cm long, usually lavender-blue but varying in shades of lilac, lavender and blue, also white ('Alba'). Mountains of Europe, often on limestone. Among cultivar names are 'Flore Pleno' (double).
'Mist Maiden', 'Miss Willmott' and 'Miranda', the last two doubtfully still in cultivation.
