Height 10-40cm. Basal leaf 10-30cm long, 2-15mm wide, one stem leaf. Flowers erect or spreading, campanulate, 1.5-2.5cm wide, white often tinged purple, with a conspicuous purple crescent above the glands and on each sepal. Petals fringed with long hairs, with further hairs on the face. Glands transverse, depressed, with a broad fringed membrane below, and a narrow membrane above, covered with short hairs above. The small hairy flowers show affinity with those of the Eleganti, but the seed capsules are typical of the Nitidi. British Columbia southwards to southern Washington. This is one of the most beautiful of the smaller species, but is uncommon in cultivation.
