Height 20-40cm. Stem slender, often branching, with bulbils. Flowers one to four, erect, widely campanulate, deep yellow with a blotch and markings in deep brown, very variable in size and profusion, and a few hairs only around the glands which are not depressed, lunate and densely hairy. California in the Coast Ranges and interior, mainly south of San Francisco in heavy soils. This very variable species is one of the easiest of the Mariposas to grow.
