Botanical Description

ex Lag. (syn. V. bracteosa). Short-lived perennial or annual, the stems up to 30cm or more long, usually prostrate or decumbent, sometimes ascending. Leaves 2-6cm long, with or without a pair of basal lobes, deeply and irregularly toothed. Flowers to 5mm across, purple to lavender-pink, in short dense spikes mixed with long, leafy bracts, summer to autumn. Southern Canada to Mexico, on sandy prairies and waste ground.
