Botanical Description

Oxycoccus macrocarpus). Evergreen mat-former, eventually to 1m or more across. Leaves oblong-elliptic, blunt-tipped, 6-17mm in length, flat or slightly revolute, dark green above, paler or somewhat whitened beneath. Flowers in clusters of one to ten, each one on a slender pedicel l-3cm long, light purple, the corolla deeply divided into four reflexed petal-like lobes, early to late summer. Fruits red, globular to pear-shaped, l-2cm in diameter. North-eastern North America, in bogs and moist to wet peaty soils. Several cultivars are grown for their fruits.
