Botanical Description

Stems reaching to 40cm in height. Leaves ovate, 5-15cm long. Flowers pedicellate, with pure white petals 2.5cm long, taking on a pink tinge as they age. Canada and U.S.A., from British Columbia to California, and Montana to Colorado. T.o. subsp. oettingeri is smaller in all its parts with narrower petals. T.o. forma hibbersonii is a very dwarf form which has pink flowers aging white. Other variants are known, including doubles ('Edith' and 'Kenmore') and green zoned petals. [Pl.501]
