Stems up to 30cm, leafy, branched at the base. Basal leaves spathulate, up to 5cm long, often dying by flowering time. Stem leaves longer and more persistent. Bracts with rigid pointed tips. Flowers with 20 to 40 rays, 0.5-1.5cm long, white. South Dakota to East Colorado, in the plains and low hills. This is one of the taller species but is very short-lived in cultivation.
