Botanical Description

A woody based, much branched perennial forming mats of hairy stems 40-60cm across. Leaves ovate-lanceolate, obtuse, the upper narrower than the lower. Flowers pink to pale purplish-pink, 7-12mm across and borne in abundance on spreading panicles in late spring to summer. A white form is known. In grassy places in southern and central Europe as far east as Yugoslavia. An easy, reliable garden plant. 'Compacta', a dwarf vivid purple-pink selection. [Pl.430].
