Usually about 20cm tall but can reach 30cm, and in the poorer drier soils may be only 10-15cm. Basal leaf blades broadly kidney-shaped, l-2.5cm across, crenately lobed or toothed, rich green; petioles to 6cm long with dilated bases which overlap to form a bulb-like structure at ground level. Flowers to 8mm long with a yellow base, in simple or sometimes branched cymes of five to twenty, early summer. Alaska to Montana, in subalpine forest and alpine fellfields.
