Botanical Description

A high alpine chasmophytic relative of P. kaufmanniana, in section Cortuoides. Dwarfer with rounded, crenate leaf-blades, thickly covered with soft hairs. Flowers large, 25 mm diameter, borne at level of leaves, violet-red with a yellow throat, the petal lobes broadly notched, in umbels of three to four. Limestone crevices, 1000-3000m. Talassian Alatau, Ala Archa, Altau. Did not persist in cultivation, but worth every effort.
