Tufted from a woody base, the flowering stems 30-60cm high. Basal leaves pinnate, deep green and sticky glandular-hairy, composed of five to nine obovate, serrate leaflets l-4cm long. Flowers pale yellow to creamy-white, about 1cm across with ascending to erect petals, in fairly numerous dense clusters, early to late summer. British Columbia to Idaho and California, in various plant communities, lowland to 2000m. P.g. var. reflexa has spreading to reflexed petals (Oregon and California only). A rather large coarse species not unworthy of rock garden space.
