Stems erect, 25-40cm tall, several from a woody crown. Leaves sessile, elliptic to oblong-ovate, 2-6cm long, white downy beneath and usually more or less so above. Flowerheads pale yellow to cream, about 1.2cm long, in terminal clusters of up to fifteen, summer to autumn. British Columbia to California in rocky places, often in open forest below 1700m.
