Leaves tufted, dark green, linear. Flowers solitary, 5-6cm across with twelve to nineteen petals, white, pink or carmine, spring to mid-summer. British Columbia to California and the Rocky Mountains, widespread in open, rocky places. L,r, var. yosemitana see L. disepala, [Pl.246].
