A low, bushy variety of about 30cm tall, of the more familiar 1m climber. Leaves formed of two, elliptical leaflets up to 4cm long, greyish and slightly downy to glabrous. Flowers violet, 1.5-2cm across, two to seven on peduncles barely exceeding the foliage, spring in the wild. Andean Patagonia to Fuegia in coastal sands, moors, grassland, open scrub and rocky mountain slopes from sea level to about 1800m.
