Botanical Description

The only member of its series (Vernae), this attractive yet rarely grown species is only 4-6cm high in bloom. Leaves deep to greyish-green, 5-13mm wide by 10-15cm long. Flowers 3-5cm across, bright blue with a hint of lilac, the falls bearing an orange stripe, spring to early summer. South-eastern U.S.A. in rocky woods and coastal dunes. Thrives best in moist (but not wet) acid soil.
