Approximately 10-15cm in height. Leaves up to 3cm in width, lustrous. Flowers 6-7cm in diameter, blue-violet, the falls having darker veining and a yellow crest, usually late winter to spring, but in the wild sometimes late autumn. Mediterranean region from Crete to southern Spain and Portugal and Morocco. Alpine house and easily grown though can become virus infected with a loss of vigour, and pale, streaked foliage; discard all such plants to prevent cross-infection.
