This 30-40cm tall sturdy species is the type plant of the Longipetala series or Rocky Mountain irises. Leaves 6-10mm wide, dark green and slightly glaucous. Flowers three to eight per stem, 6-7cm across, almost white, veined lilac-purple, the falls more prominently so than the standards with the addition of a yellowish signal patch, spring. California, south of San Francisco in coastal grassland and mixed deciduous woodland.
