Botanical Description

Generally 15-30cm high in bloom. Leaves overtopping flowers, 2-5mm wide, boldly ribbed. Flowers to 5cm in diameter ranging from lavender to deep red-purple, the hafts of the falls white with purple veins, the standards spreading outwards to the same plane as the falls creating a very distinctive flat flower somewhat reminiscent of the much larger 'clematis iris', I. ensata (kaempferi), early to mid-summer.
