Usually about 40-60cm tall, but sometimes to 1m Leaves pinnate, to 25cm or more long, toothed, the lower leaflets often cleft into two or more lobes. Flowers about 1cm long, white to lavender, early to late summer. Eastern North America, from Quebec and Manitoba, south to Kansas and Virginia, in moist woods. The young shoots are edible.
