Botanical Description

ex Torr. & A. Gray. Densely tufted, to 15cm in height. Leaves comparatively small, kidney-shaped, shallowly seven to nine-lobed. Flowers with yellow to white petals, in narrow, interrupted spike-like panicles, summer. New Mexico to Montana, in mountain habitats. H.p. var. utahensis is taller with leaves 3-6cm broad, having lobes one fifth to one third the blade length. H.p. var. dissecta (syn. H. flabellifolia), has smaller leaves than var. utahensis (l-4cm) but lobed one third to one half the blade length.
