ex Reiche. More or less clump-forming with short thick rhizomes, up to 10cm tall. Leaves 1.5-6.5cm long dissected into three leaflets, each one bi- or tripinnate, whitish or yellowish, pubescent. Flowers solitary or in pairs amongst or just above the leaves, the males 2.5-4cm across, the females smaller, with five to seven narrow, yellowish sepals, and eight to eighteen linear, pointed reddish petals, late spring to summer. Tierra del Fuego area and western Argentina north to Mendoza, in open grassland, bare soil and amongst rocks, at 500-1000m. [Pl.211]
