Botanical Description

Plant 30-60cm high including the dense, cylindrical to pyramidal flower spike. Basal leaves oval-lanceolate. Stem bracts acute, lanceolate, often as long as or surpassing the flowers. Flowers bright yellow with outer tepals 1.4-1.6cm by 3-3.5mm, the upper inner pair shorter, oval and totally lacking thickening; lip prominently trilobed, 4-5 by 3-3.5mm with a heavily thickened tip to the oblong central lobe which lined with fleshy, capitate papillae along the veins and margins. Southern Chile and Patagonian Andean Argentina, extending to Tierra del Fuego and commonly inhabiting moist woodlands to about 1200m.
