Plant 25-50cm tall including the 12-15cm long spike. Leaves oblong-lanceolate. Flowers many, dense, almost closed, yellow with oblong to oblong-lanceolate outer tepals, 1.1-1.5cm by 4-6mm, the laterals being notable for lacking caudicles completely; inner tepal pair similar with long green callused keels lining the basal half of the veins; lip trilobed, 8 by 10mm with large, prominent oblong-sqaurish side lobes, the veins bearing continuous green keels, those of the tongue-shaped central lobe being denser and more broken up into fleshy green blobs and crests. Tierra del Fuego and the Falkland Islands. The much more robust G. odoratissima (50-80cm high) with clear yellow flowers from montane woodlands of north and central Andean Patagonia differs mainly in the prominent fleshy, green 9-12mm long caudicles on the lateral tepals, and the scarcely, if at all, developed basal crests on the inner pair. It exudes an intense fragrance, similar to freesias.
