Leaves lightly to heavily mottled, glossy. Up to 30cm tall with one to three flowers, 6cm in diameter. Bud pink tinted, flowers creamy white always with a small yellow throat, sometimes with a faint, broken or hazy to sharply defined, rust-red ring. No auricles. Anthers white, filaments straight, style moderately clavate, divided into three stubby lobes. Scent faint, somewhat aromatic. Excellent garden plant flowering regularly but rarely making offsets. The cultivar 'White Beauty', increases well but is very probably of hybrid origin (see also under E. revolutum). California coastal ranges in light woodland and scrub. [Pl.172]
