Botanical Description

Matformng from a woody, branched caudex. Leaves tufted, ovate, 8-14mm long, sometimes more, densely white tomentose beneath more or less glabrous above. Flowering stems 20-40cm high bearing compact inflorescences subtended by raylike bracts l-3cm long. Flowers yellow-white, early to late summer. California, Sierra Nevada, in dry gravelly sites sometimes in open pine or fir forests at 1080-2450m.
