Rounded shrub to 2m wide and high in the wild. Leaves oblong to oblong-ovate, 3-10cm long, leathery, grey-white hairy above, white tomentose beneath. Flowers in dense white-woolly clusters, sometimes to 30cm across, white aging rust-red, summer. Southern California, offshore islands, on dry chaparral and sagebrush shrub. Might make an interesting pot plant when small but in general of little interest to the devoted alpinist.
