Botanical Description

Plant with short branched stems, often prostrate. Leaves to 5cm long, the blade obovate, to 7mm, tapering gradually into the stalk. Flowers white, about 1cm across, three to twenty on a curved stem to 5cm tall, arising from the side of the rosette. Europe, North America and Asia, in damp peaty soils and occasionally bogs. D. intermedia forms a sterile hybrid with D. filiformis in the northeastern United States (D. X hybrida). It is clump-forming, intermediate in leaf character and has pale pink flowers. It is easily cultivated.
