Solitary rosette to small clump-forming, 10-25cm in height. Leaves lanceolate to oblong, hairy, pale green. The flowers are 2-3cm long shapely lavender-blue bells, pendent from the stem tips, each one with many long white hairs on the broadly triangular petal lobes. Alps, with an outlier in Norway, at subalpine levels in meadows, stony places and open woods. Often short-lived in cultivation but easily raised from seed. [Pl.88]
