Botanical Description

Stems 15-20cm tall. Leaves 1.5-3cm long by 2-3.5cm wide, with horny margins and dense, soft hairs. Flower tube 'U ' shaped, 3-4cm long, dark reddish-purple. The blade 1-1.5cm long and a little wider, softly hairy outside with shorter, paler hairs inside and white spots, spring. Western Turkey in deciduous oak forest on limestone. Can be confused with A. auricularia, the leaf shape being similar, but the tube more slender and minutely, softly hairy.
