Bulbs globular to ovoid, usually in small clumps. Stems 20-30cm tall, sometimes less, sharply triangular in cross section. Leaves as long as or longer than stems, strongly keeled, sometimes strongly arching or rolled at the tips, somewhat succulent. Flowers bell-shaped, up to 1.9cm long, the pure white tepals with green midribs, more or less pendent, in umbels of three to fifteen, early summer. Western Mediterranean, naturalised in the Channel Islands, British Isles, New Zealand, etc. in moist shady places. Needs a mild winter climate, but when happily situated can be invasive via self-sown seedlings.
