Lemmon ex Greene. Bulbs broadly ovoid, usually in clumps. Stems to 30cm or more high. Leaves almost as long as stems, up to 6mm wide. Flowers semi-star-shaped, the outer three tepals low-arching, the inner three ascending, each on 1-1.3cm long, rich rose-purple, up to twenty-five in loosish umbels, late spring to summer. California, Coast Ranges and foothills of Sierra Nevada, on dryish open or wooded slopes below 1000m. Probably best in an alpine house. A.p. var. crispum see A. crispum.
