Botanical Description

Bulbs ovoid, clustered or not. Stems up to 5cm long, often twisting over the soil surface somewhat flattened. Leaves falcate, 10-20cm long by about 5mm wide. Flowers pale to dark purple, the tepals 8-14mm long, many in rounded umbels, spring to early summer. California, Coast Ranges and foothills of Sierra Nevada, in scrub and light woodland on volcanic and serpentine soils. Probably best in the alpine house or bulb frame.
