from a cluster of hard, pale brown bulbs, usually 30-60cm tall, but sometimes less or more. Leaves stiff, erect, often spiralling, blue to grey-green. Flower spikes ovoid, 8-18mm long, the pale yellow flowers 2-3cm across, late summer. Eastern North America, from Ontario to North Carolina and Tennessee.
Interesting plants with potential for the sheltered rock garden, or alpine house. Moist, preferably acid humusy soil is required and a sunny position.
