Flowering stems 30-60cm tall, basal leaves linear to narrowly lanceolate, short stalked, 25-3 8cm long, scabrid; stem leaves smaller, sessile. Flowerheads yellow, up to 6cm or more wide, usually solitary but sometimes two or more, summer to autumn. Colorado to Utah, south to New Mexico and Arizona, on dry slopes.
