Flowering stems to 40cm or more in height. Basal leaves lanceolate to elliptic, short-stalked, 30-50cm long, white downy when young, eventually aging almost glabrous. Flowerheads usually solitary, to 12cm wide, white, summer. California, in the coast ranges and in Sierra Nevada, in grassland and forest margins.
