(Epacridaceae o r Ericaceae )
Three species of small shrubs from Australia, New Caledonia, New Guinea. They have small, simple, evergreen leaves and bell-shaped flowers singly from the leaf axils.
The species described has the appeal of one of the smaller gaultherias but is not reliably hardy.
Probably best in the alpine house. Acid, humus-rich, moist soil is essential and full sun to partial shade. Propagation by cuttings in late summer or seed and suckers in spring.
