Botanical Description

Balbisia gracilis). Much branched subshrublet with ascending to erect slender stems 20-70cm tall. Leaves 1.5-2 by 1-1.8cm, ovate to rhomboid in outline, deeply trifid, the side lobes linear-lanceolate, the longer, broader mid-lobe usually but less deeply three to five-cleft. Inflorescences terminal, more or less panicle-like, composed of several dichasia. Flowers about 1cm across, starry, straw-coloured to yellowish, summer. Chile and Argentina, the central cordilleras south to Andean central Patagonia among rocks and boulders on mountain slopes, often with relatively coarse vegetation at 1000-2300m.
