Botanical Description

in height. Leaves rounded in outline, basically ternate with each leaflet cut into ten or more narrow segments having a grey-blue patina above and a purple flush beneath. Flowers yellow, 2cm or wide, the upper petals purple-brown on the backs, and the lower three with brown-purple veining, late spring to summer. Washington state to California, in open scrub and forest in moistish soils at 750-2500m. One of the most elegant of the cut-leaved violets.
