Botanical Description

Tufted clump-forming, up to 16cm in height. Leaves usually orbicular, varying to kidney-shaped and triangular-ovate, crenate to crenate-serrate, somewhat hairy above. Flowers 2.2-3cm wide, yellow with brown veins.

summer to autumn. Southern tips of Chile and Argentina including Fuegia, in scrub and deciduous Nothofagus forest where the soil is moist.

V. magellensis Porta &: Rigo ex Strobl. (including

V. albanica). (P). Tufted, with stems up to 10cm in length, sometimes more. Leaves oblong to ovate or semi-orbicular, 5-15mm long, the stipules similar or smaller, glabrous or pubescent. Flowers about 2cm wide, violet to pink, or with the upper two petals deep red-purple, summer. Apennines and mountains of Albania and Greece, in alpine grassland and limestone screes.
