Glandularia peruviana). Mat-forming, to 40cm or more across and 10-15cm high, the prostrate stems rooting at the nodes. Leaves ovate to oblong-lanceolate, 2-5cm long, sharply toothed and scabrous. Flowers almost 1cm wide, bright crimson or scarlet, in corymbose spikes which elongate with age, summer to autumn. Southern Brazil to the pampas of Argentina (despite its specific name). V.p. var. melindrioides has ovate, doubly crenate-serrate and densely hairy leaves. Var. glabriuscula has almost glabrous leaves. The flowers of forma alba are white, of var. rosea, pink. Half-hardy, only surviving mild winters out of doors.
