Creeping and branched downy subshrublet, usually prostrate, rooting at the nodes and forming mats, its markedly square-sectioned stems 10-20cm in length with foliage crowded towards the tips. Leaves shortly petiolate, l-2cm long, ovate to triangular in outline, deeply cut into three broad lobes, the central trifid and the laterals bifid. (Lower leaves may be more or less entire). Inflorescences almost sessile or on very short stems, usually composed of fewer than ten pale violet-blue flowers, each less than 1cm long and about 5mm across. Two of the lobes combine as an emarginate 'lip'. Widespread from the central Andes of Ecuador to Bolivia, at up to 3500m.
