Stems 10-20cm or more high, from creeping branched rhizomes. Basal leaves elliptic oblanceolate at least 8mm wide. Flowers white, in loose cymose panicles, mid to late summer. Alps, Apennines and mountains in Albania, sometimes at quite low altitudes generally amongst limestone rocks, V.s. subsp. pancicii is dwarfer, with leaves less than 8mm wide.
