Tufted to clump forming, 10-27cm in height from a tough branched crown. Leaves obovate-spathulate, 1.5-2.5cm long, up-folded, lustrous, downy-margined. Inflorescence starts head-like, elongating into a narrow panicle. Flowers creamy-pink, 5-7mm long, summer. Chile and Argentina, in the southern central cordilleras to central Andean Patagonia in alpine meadows and steppe, especially in volcanic sand at 1300-2000m.
