Botanical Description

the stems usually with a few branches above. Leaves oblong to narrowly ovate, 6-13cm long, perfoliate, downy beneath. Flowers solitary from the upper leaf axils, to 5cm long, bright yellow, early summer. Quebec to North Dakota, south to Georgia and Oklahoma, in woods and scrub, mainly on limestone formations.
