Botanical Description

Stems to 10cm tall, sometimes more. Leaves only two, grey- green. Flowers two to five, rarely only one, 2-3.5cm long, white with a yellow centre, the tepal backs suffused greenish-grey, with or without a touch of pink, late winter to spring. Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and south-western Siberia. T. turkestanica is much the same but is somewhat taller and more robust with two to four leaves and up to ten flowers with yellow or orange centres. Central Asia to north-western China.
