Botanical Description

D C (syn. T. oculus-solis, T. lortetii). Stems 20-60cm tall. Flowers 5-8.5cm long, mat orange-red, sometimes yellow-flushed on the backs of the tepals and with a yellow-margined black basal blotch, outer three tepals pointed. France, Italy, Turkey and Iran, in margins of cultivated land or as a 'weed'. Probably a cultigen. Too tall for the rock garden and rather dull. See also under T.
