Authors: Spreng.
Similar to T. polyphyllum in general appearance, but more closely allied to T. looseri. Stems to 60cm in length. Leaves shortly pinnate with deeply toothed glaucous leaflets. Flowers 1.6cm long including a slender spur, the petals usually yellow, but can be biscuit to orange with purple veining, sometimes with red calyces, summer in the wild. Mainly Argentina, from Mendoza to Chubut, at 850-3000m but also just into Chile, on volcanic boulder strewn slopes and terraces. The tubers are very deep seated in the wild. Probably hardy outside in sheltered sites with sharp drainage. [Pl.508]
