Botanical Description

Tuberous rooted perennial with slender stems up to 2m long. Leaves palmatisect almost to the base, with five to seven lanceolate to obovate lobes 4-10mm long. Flowers yellow, often pale, to 1.5cm long, the petals usually notched and the upper ones with purple spots along the veins. The 4-5mm long spur has a black appendage; spring. Chile, in coastal and central valley dry scrubland. Needs a frost-free greenhouse. T. nuptae-jucundae is closely related and similar but with somewhat longer stems, smaller leaves and flowers that lack the purple spots and spur appendage (dark-tipped only). Southern central Chile, blooming a month later in the wild.
